Chapter 5 · Using the app

Recycling & end of life

How a battery moves from in-service to recycler intake, what data the recycler receives, and how recovery is recorded against Annex XII targets.

End-of-life & recycling flow

Phase 1 path from in-service passport through optional second-life assessment (WF-11), recycler handoff (WF-12), material recovery reporting, and public QR visibility. Use this diagram in customer demos — no JavaScript required.

WF-08 Manufacturer / operator

In service on market

Passport status On market. SoH and cycles update via BMS ingest or operator entry.

WF-11 Repairer (grant)

Second-life assessment

Repairer with BMS-read grant records eligibility: eligible, conditional, or ineligible.

WF-12 Manufacturer

Grant recycler handoff

WF-12 Recycler

Inbound & EoL package

Inbound handoffs → open unit. Package: chemistry, BOM, materials, dismantling ref, hazardous substances, SoH, latest WF-11 result.

WF-12 Recycler

Confirm receipt

Status → End of life. RecyclingHandoff recorded; manufacturer Lifecycle shows receipt time.

WF-12 Recycler

Recovery report

Submit Li, Co, Ni, Cu recovery %. Compared to provisional Annex XII 2027 minimums (Li 50%, Co/Ni/Cu 90%). Met / Gap badges on screen.

Public Consumer (QR)

Passport transparency

Public page banner for End of life / Second life. Notes when material recovery has been reported.

Manufacturer Repairer (optional) Recycler Public QR

Demo click-path

  1. ManufacturerRegistry → passport → Lifecycle → review WF-11 card → Grant recycler handoff.
  2. Recycler — sign in → Inbound handoffs → EoL package → Confirm receiptRecovery report.
  3. Public — scan QR on the same passport; confirm lifecycle banner after receipt and recovery.

What the recycler sees

The EoL package is built from data you already declared on the product family and passport: chemistry, BOM lines, dismantling reference, hazardous substances, and state of health when available. Second-life assessments from repairer grants are shown when present.

Second life before recycling

On the manufacturer Lifecycle tab, a Second-life assessment (WF-11) card shows the latest repairer eligibility (eligible, conditional, or ineligible), notes, and repurposing guidance. Review this before Send to recycler.

Public passport (QR)

Consumers scanning the QR still see recycling guidance from the model/passport. When the passport status is End of life or Second life, a prominent banner on the public page states that status (and notes when material recovery has been reported).
